Forrest Gump
Separation
The Call To Adventure: Forrest's first call to adventure is when he is attacked by bullies after school one day. He is forced to run when the bullies attack him with rocks, despite being in leg braces and disabled all his life. His adventure is coined in the famous phrase, "Run Forest, Run!"
Crossing the First Threshold: When forest runs from the bullies, his leg braces fall off. He soon discovers his love for running. By running he sees no more limitations for himself.
Initiation
Road of Trials: The world seems to test Forrest. Not everyone understands him and this creates certain challenges in his life. There is the physical test of running on the University of Alabama team and more subtle test like his generous
donation to Bubba's family. Through his various trials, Forrest seems to remain true to who he is.
Meeting with the Goddess: On his first day of elementary school, he meets Jenny who allows him to experience love. Through she is on her own personal journey of solidifying her identity, Forrest has unconditional love for her. She helped him stand up against the bullies and was one of the only people who truly accepted Forrest for who he was.
Return
Crossing the Return Threshold: One of the most significant scenes in the movie is Forrest's final run. His new sense of loneliness causes him to run. His run across the country bring him nationwide attention and also challenges other people to run. All his life, Forrest ran, (he ran from the bullies, he ran in Vietnam to save Lieutenant Dan) finally he gets tired and walks back to Alabama. Though his audience does not fully understand, they each take something away from his experience.
Freedom to Live: When Forrest meets his son for the first time, he becomes free again. After the death of Jenny, Forrest dedicates his life to being a good father to Little Forrest. The closing scene reflects the opening scene with Forrest sending his son off to school.
